I recently spent an enjoyable couple of hours at the Tate Britain Gallery, where they have some wonderful paintings and frames. It was interesting to see the variation in frame conditions throughout the collection, noticeably the relatively bright gilding on some restored and replica frames. A good example is the two Turner frames immediately above this text, the same profile and ornament, hanging on the same wall, but with quite different finishes and patina.

20th Century Carved Frames
A couple of mid 20th century carved frames, one a classic Montparnasse frame with wash/decape finish, the other with crude/bold carving and heavily distressed gilded finish.
