Frames in the National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery has some wonderful frames in their collection, here are just a few from a recent visit.

Saturday

Portrait revival frame

A 19th Century composition revival version of earlier carved 17th/18th Century Lely style frames, a good size and ideal framing a period Victorian portrait. Reasonable condition with original gilding and just requiring some minor restoration work.

Friday

3 Lely frames

Thursday

An early 20th Century Lely style frame

Saturday

A selection of antique frames

 18th C English carved

As much as I like art and paintings in frames, there is something about a beautiful empty antique frame hung on a wall which I almost prefer.
