Painting a Frame

This frame is just being painted on the middle section and sides. The gilding is burnished on the outer section but the inner part is not burnished. The gilding is masked off while I do the painting.

Friday

Gesso Painted Frame

The frame after it has been painted with gesso, and was then painted with a number of different colours.

Sunday

Gesso Painted Frame

An obeche frame that has been coated with several layers of gesso, this is to fill the wood grain and to provide a smooth surface for finishing. In this case the frame will be painted and waxed.

Saturday

12ct distressed finish

This frame has 12ct white gold water gilding with a distressed paint and waxy finish.

Friday

Metal leaf gilt

This gesso and distressed paint frame has had the sight edge gilded in metal leaf.

Thursday

White colourwash

A simple white finish with slight colour variations. The frame was painted with acrylic primer, then a green/blue paint, then a coat of off white. When dry the frame was sanded and distressed, and then given a watered down colourwash. Next the frame was given a brush over with liming wax, which was wiped off, and lastly some coloured pigment was brushed over and the whole frame was given a good polish. The finish is a subtle but attractive colourwashed/distressed look.
