Here is a large frame that is being painted with red bole.

They are not very common but occasionally you see frames that are made with papier mache ornament.

Gesso frame


This is the frame from the previous post as it is being painted with gesso.

Cut down moulding



A couple of pictures of a moulding before and after it has been cut to make two separate mouldings. The outer part of the frame is required for an order and will be gilded.

Gilded swept




Making a water gilded swept frame, some faulting and patching is needed, and then some burnishing. After these stages are done it will be distressed and toned.
