Frames at Compton Verney Gallery

I paid my first visit to Compton Verney Gallery in Warwickshire recently, after it was mentioned to me by Lynn Roberts who runs the wonderful Frame Blog. It is situated in a classic country house with several collections (such as Naples art, British portraits, and Northern European work), with examples of some good antique and reproduction antique frames, all set in a landscape by Capability Brown. There is also a room with plasterwork frames by Robert Adam.

Saturday Jobs

A couple of frames finished today. Two very simple painted frames with a tray so the canvas will be positioned away from the frame sight edge, sometimes called a canvas tray or float frame. The other frame is white gold with paint and a wash finish.

Round Image Victorian Frame

This round aperture Victorian Louis XV Rococo revival frame came in recently for some restoration work.

Old and New

A 12ct white gold gilded frame, part of a large order I have just finished, and a nice example of a 17th Century British Louis XIII style carved frame.

Auction Eve May 4th 2016

Auction Eve in Paris has their next antique frame auction on Wednesday 4th May 2016. A very good selection of some 500 lots of antique frames. I like that their catalogues always have a humorous and interesting cover photo!

A PDF catalogue can be downloaded from their website:

Frames in Sudeley Castle.

Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire has some very interesting frames and paintings, not a huge number but a good selection of different styles, and several high quality antique frames. There are a few rooms where photography is not permitted, with some good frames not shown in my photos here. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
